CREDIT TIPS

Free Credit Reports: A federal law makes it not only easy but also free to see what credit bureaus are saying about your credit/debts. The new federal law requires the bureaus to provide consumers, upon request, with a free credit report every 12 months. Credit reports from the three major credit bureaus can be ordered at the same time, as you chose to, or individually throughout the year. To request your free credit reports online you can visit www.annual creditreport.com.

How do Issuers evaluate my Credit? Issuers determine credit worthiness by what are called the three C's of credit (capacity, character and collateral). Capacity refers to your ability to pay given your income and existing debt. Collateral refers to any assets you have that can secure payment (e.g. bank accounts, home ownership). Character refers to factors such as your payment history and length of employment. The criteria for accepting applicants vary between issuers and credit card products.

With the growing problem of identity theft, it is important to check your credit report on a regular basis to make sure your credit is accurate. Do not let yourself fall in the trap. There are many companies that can help you re-establish your credit and get you on the road to good credit again. If you have bad credit, consider applying for a credit repair and debt consolidation Together, they can lower your monthly payments by up to 50% and erase mistakes that are on your credit reports.

Double-Check Your Credit Report!

Personal Information: Make sure your name, address, date of birth, Social Security number, previous address, exployer and phone number are accurate.

Credit Summary: Review your accounts to see if they are all yours and accurately reflect your payment history.

Public Records: Check court judgement or liens recorded against you.

Inquiries: Monitor companies that may have accessed your credit report. Be aware of requests from companies you are not doing business with; those may suggest suspicious activity from an identity thief trying to use your information to gain credit.

Maintaining Good Credit

Good credit is important to secure financing when buying furniture, a computer, car, or even a new home. Employers often check the credit rating of prospective employees. A solid credit rating reflects positively on your ability to manage your job responsibly. Renting an apartment may be easier. A good credit rating tells landlords that you are a person who's more likely to pay the rent on time each month. You may be eligible to receive loans for education. Strong credit references can open a world of financial opportunity. Someday you might want to use credit to finance a business. Managing credit can be a challenge. There's no better way to keep out of debt than by tracking your spending and sticking to a budget. A budget can help you control your finances, decrease your debt, and build a strong credit history.
